How to Play

A quick tour of the tiles, the table, the scoreboard and the hand hints.

1. Know the tiles

  • Number Suits (108 tiles): Dots, Bams and Craks each run 1 to 9, four copies of every tile. Faces carry Arabic numerals, and the 1 Bam shows a bird.
  • Honor Tiles (28 tiles): Four winds marked E, S, W and N, plus Red (R), Green (G) and White (Wh) dragons, four copies of each.
  • Flowers (8 tiles): Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter with Plum, Orchid, Chrysanthemum and Bamboo. American play treats all eight as one functional group.
  • Jokers (8 tiles): Wildcards that stand in for almost any tile to finish a set, but not for a pair or a single.

2. Pick a mode and a difficulty

  • Choose a mode first: Single Hand deals one rack, Full Game deals four, and Build the Wall stacks all 152 tiles.
  • Casual: Larger tiles with suit labels and a slow, steady deal. Use the difficulty chips above the table to switch at any time.
  • Standard: Readable tiles at a normal deal pace. Use the difficulty chips above the table to switch at any time.
  • Expert: Compact tiles, no suit labels and a fast deal. Use the difficulty chips above the table to switch at any time.

3. Deal, draw and discard

  • Tap Deal Tiles to shuffle the wall and deal a fresh round. The counter above the table shows how many tiles stay in the wall.
  • When your rack is ready, Draw Tile takes the next tile from the wall into your hand, bringing it to fourteen tiles.
  • Click any tile in your own rack to discard it. It lands in Your discards under the table, and you can keep drawing and discarding until the wall runs out.
  • Change your mind on a discard? Undo Discard puts the last tile back in your hand so you can try another tile instead.
  • Every draw and discard is listed in the Round log under the table, newest first, with the tile face, the tiles left in your rack and whether that move keeps the hand ready. The line above the list tracks draws so far, tiles left in the wall and the current best discard, and Restart this round clears the log and deals a fresh rack.
  • Playing on a keyboard? Press D to draw, then a number key to discard that position. For positions ten to fourteen, press 1 and then 0 to 4. Escape cancels a part typed number.
  • Sort Hands reorders every hand by suit and rank so pairs and runs are easier to spot.

4. Read the hand hints

  • With Hints On, each hand shows how many sets it has formed out of four, and whether a pair is in place.
  • When a hand is one tile from complete it shows Ready and lists the tiles it is waiting on. Use the Hints button to hide or show this at any time.
  • After you draw, your own rack shows which discard keeps it ready, the best discard is ringed in rose with a Best tag, and the tracker bar at the bottom repeats it — click the tile there to discard it too.
  • The hint uses a simplified check of four sets plus one pair, with jokers and flowers counted as wildcards. It is a learning aid, not a full rule engine.

5. Keep score as you play

  • After each hand, enter the points for North, East, West and South in the scoreboard below the table.
  • Finish a hand yourself? Log This Hand adds the row for you, scoring 25 points for your seat and 0 for the rest.
  • Add Hand to Scores saves that row and updates the running totals. The seat in front shows a Lead marker.
  • Any saved score can be corrected: click it in the table and type the right number.
  • Reset Scores clears the board. Scores stay on this device, so a refresh keeps them.
